Podcast: Conversation with composer / musician / filmmaker SPOOKEY RUBEN
As a prelude to the soft launch of BHA+ – my nascent Vintage Video Review & How-To Patreon channel – the first post is a lengthy podcast conversation with Canadian-born musician, composer, producer, and filmmaker Spookey Ruben, whose 2024 tour hits Toronto today on gloriously ominous Friday the 13th at BSMT 254, Toronto.
As we discuss Ruben’s shift from music to film to music videos whilst building a career as prolific songwriter after time at York University, I’ve interpolated numerous samples of his work, as well as some underscore from Puzzleface, his short film that’s also notable as featuring an appearance by filmmaker Ken Russell (Billion Dollar Brain, Altered States, Lair of the White Worm) as, what else, God.
The podcast interview – the first of what’ll be a monthly feature at BHA+ – is available through Libsyn and other fine hosting sites, and I’ll have a YouTube version up next week, followed by a formal Introduction to the channel (in Blog and podcast forms) where I outline its mandate, and reveal the first piece of gear to be reviewed with lengthy (and leisurely paced) test footage.
Special Thanks to Spookey Ruben for his generous time, and David Daniloff & Daniloff Productions for facilitating our Q&A. Visit Spookey Ruben’s website for links to his numerous music videos, and bandcamp to sample and purchase his music.
You can also follow us on Instagram and Facebook for further alerts and teasing images and video.
